Taking responsibility
I'm very much aware of the stories which keep popping up on Facebook and other social media about pensioners who have to work into the 70s and upwards. Whilst I feel a deal of sympathy for those affected I can't help feeling a little annoyed that so many people failed to plan for their future, expecting the state to provide a "comfortable" income for them till they passed on to the next life.
I need to say that working as I did in financial services during the 80s 90s and noughties I've many occasion to suggest to people they start saving for the retirement.
I worked for a large home service insurance company and I've heard every excuse under the sun for people not follow my recommendation of saving a little for their future by using pension or similar saving plan. life insurance for those they'd leave behind should the depart this mortal coil. I therefore feel I should be forgiven when I say that I very little sympathy for these people.
I have suggested that people save a little towards the retirement and heard every reason going for them not to from dishonest pension fund managers "to the state will look after me" well unfortunately the state won't, the state will provide you with the basic minimum pension to live on and the pension age from the state is ever rising, this is not a con, it's because more people are living longer and whatever political party you support the maths are the maths.
The factors are all there in plain sight, a growing rental economy, an ageing population, The rising cost of living along with the fact that women fare worse than men in the pension arena and you see a looming poverty issue on the horizon. etc.
Unfortunately similar issues abandoned today in the case of life insurance Believe me I've heard every excuse and cliche under the sun "they won't leave me on top"was the most common and now I cringe when I see families having to to going to debt or set up gofundme pages to bury the loved ones.
