A slice of Faith saved 26-01-2023

Jacob Critchley the mill owner  ATC Sgt Ann Grey Private Lizzie Sawyer  Philip Sawyer Sgt Caruthers The Dawson Family (farmers). Pamela, Faiths friend at the barracks. 1 It was a remembrance Sunday morning in the November of  2010, Autumn was begining to take its grip.  Gathered outside the cenotaph in the shadow of  Preston Market, the local Band was tuning up,  the city's dignities, the local Scouts The Girl Guides and the usual representation from the armed forces were all represened.  Sat there quietly about three rows back in the invited guests section was Faith Dawson.  Faith was a quietly spoken, somewhat shy individual who lived nearby in smart sheltered housing,  housing which was provided and paid for by the Royal British legion. That alone would have given the sharp-eyed observer t...

the lass from the mills pt2 (draft and chapter reposetory)

It was Monday, the weekends events turned over in her mind and whilst many were good, one conversation concerned her. She and Philip had danced and had a few drinks, enjoyed fresh fish n chips as they walked across London bridge, and ended up back at his flat where they made love. Sunday morning broke, a warm early spring walk beckoned, Faith wanted a walk to a little cafe nearby for coffee and breakfast buns but Philip seemed to want to talk to her about her duties, indeed his opening "pillow talk" was asking her what she'd be doing tomorrow? It was a line of questioning that had come up previously and Ashley was mindful of the signs about "careless talk costing lives". Why the interest she asked? Oh, you know he replied nonchalantly, I love you so much I want to learn more about you, there are things I hardly know about you. That seemed to satisfy her embryo of suspicion but she still wanted to tread carefully. Get dressed then, and I'll let you take me ...

How to survive a recession

how to survive a recession Recessions are not nice for ordinary folk, our standards of living reduce. But we can survive and in many cases experience improvements in our lives. I recall inflation at around 25% in the seventies and we survived. In a way it has some positives, and personal debt effectively reduces in value for one.  Prepare yourselves and your family for the downturn but also recognise the new opportunities,  it'll teach you and you family the true value of things like the food we eat (how many take outs do we fail to enjoy or throw away large amounts of?), See "do a meals list",  the clothes we wear, (and footwear🤔),  short,  unesacerry journeys etc. Start walking,  go with them. RECOMMENDATION 1 Do yourself an honest,  comprehensive and realistic budget This will help you identify what's going out and could be reduced or even stopped. It will also help if you need to ask your credits for a breather see negotiate with creditors See Re...

The Japanese Standard

Image
Did you know that when working on a Japanese and most Chinese motorcycles,  what you thought were philips screws are in fact more likely to be JIS screws. Ever notice how easy it is to round off or damage the cross-type screws on your motorcycle? Notice I didn’t say Phillips—that’s because chances are those screws are JIS screws. Have you been using the wrong screwdriver on your motorcycle? JIS stands for Japanese Industrial Standard, and while similar to Phillips, the shape is slightly different. It was designed to behave differently than a Phillips when sufficient torque is reached. A Phillips is engineered to “cam out” once the screw is tight, whereas JIS is locked in and the torque setting is up to the user. It all comes down to the shape of the screw and bit. With the naked eye it’s tough to tell the difference between the two. But if you look really close, you can see that a JIS bit has much tighter radius at its cross section; it’s nearly perpendicular. The JIS i...

Missold pensions?

Victims of mis-sold pensions are being advised they might be better off making a claim themselves rather than going through a third party. Law firms and claim management companies may charge more than 40 per cent per claim. 'Charging desperate victims massive fees, for recouping a fraction of their loss is just heaping further misery on them,' said Stephen Timms MP, chair of the work and pensions committee and former shadow Work and Pensions Secretary. The FSCS has rejected 17.2% of applications from law firms since start of 2018 Only 17.8% of people making their own applications were denied Claims management companies had most success with 11.1% of cases rejected Last year, 13,504 applications were made to the FSCS for mis-sold pensions Law firms may charge up to 50 per cent per claim on a no win, no fee deal  New figures reveal that DIY claims stand a good chance of success - saving thousands of pounds in commission that might have otherwise gone to claim management companies...

Marriage Allowance Caution

Social media it seems it's full now of schemes to make you some extra money but in reality if you read the terms and conditions carefully (whoever's does?) you will see that by clicking accept you are often giving the the company involved permission to take over your tax affairs with the Inland revenue.
